sony vegas chroma key on more than one clip on the same track
Hi, I am working with one track that has video multiple clips. I need most of the clips to have their own chroma key settings. When I add the chroma key to the first clip it lets make changes to the chroma key settings in the clip which is correct. When I add the chroma key to the next clip on the same track it will let me make changes to the chroma key settings to that clip which is correct but if I click back to the first one clip that I added the chroma key to it will not let me make any changes to the chroma key settings. It just seems to affect the second clip. Is it possible to have different chroma key settings for individual clips on the same track?

Sure it is.
I did a 10 min. video a few years ago that had at least 20 separate chromakey clips on it and had no problems adjusting each one independent of any other clip.
When you add the 2nd clip, are you clicking the FX icon on the clip and then selecting chromakey or are you doing it a different way? -
When you open the second chromakey evnt window and make your settings you have to reopen the first chromakey window to change settings in it. If you just click back ti the event (so that your curser is on the first event) you will see the event in the preview window but you will still have the chromakey window open for the second event. As Mike said you need to reclick on the effetcs symbol in the correct event.

Thanks for the quick responce, I dont have it in front of me but I will tell you exactly what I do. for example, I have all my clips on one track. Say I am using just two clips and want to have seperate chroma key settings. I slect the clip then gram the green screen chroma key over that clip. I then adjust the settings. Next I grab the second clip and drag the green screen chroma key effect over that clip and adjust the settings (I then notice that in the section where I update the settings that there are two chroma key tabs I think because I added it seperatly twice). Next I click the first clip and then try and edit the settings but nothing happens. It seems like it either does nothing or edits the second clip in some cases. Just thought I would mention that I am using the trial version, I dont think that should matter.

And that’s where you went wrong 🙂
As I said, click the Event FX icon on the clip itself (looks like a +), choose the Chroma Keyer FX and these problems will go away..(I then notice that in the section where I update the settings that there are two chroma key tabs I think because I added it seperatly twice).
That happened because you dragged the ChromaKey FX on top of the clip instead of doing it the way I recommended.

Thanks alot for the help, I appreciate it, I will plan on trying that when I get home. I am planing on exporting the final file to a dvd and want the best possible quality when I do it. Do you have any suggestions on how to get the best possible resolution and picture quality when outputing the file when I am done? I am wotking with a regular dv widescreen camera that is supposed to give a good quality picture but I have nothing to compare it to to know how good it should look.

Make sure your project properties (File – Properties) are set to NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480, 29.970 fps).
When it’s time to render (assuming you want to make a DVD), it’s best to do it as a 2-step process.
#1 is to render the video using MPEG-2.
Select the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template, click Customand then Video.
In the Videotab, click Constant bit rate and change the value to 8,000,000.
This value will work as ling as your videi is less than 70 min. long.
#2 is to render the audio using AC-3.
The default template is fine here.
Make sure to give both files the same surname (i.e. chris.mpg and chris.ac3) and render the to the same folder.
That way, when you load the video into DVD Architect, the audio will automatically follow it. -
Yes, Click on the event icon on each event to add a different chromakey plugin to each event that can be set differently. May I suggest since you said your using DV footage, add a chromablur plugin to each event chain just befor the chromakey plugin and set the blur to medium. This helps reduce the jaggy edges you commonly get when keying DV footage with color space 4.1.1. Hope this helps, Danny Hays
