Recently I had to buy a new computer before this i NEVER had a problem
capturing with the same program and camera .
    the new computer is

    Dell Studio
with vista home premium service pack 1
    has a intel core quad cpu q8200 @ 2.33ghz
    memory 8.00GB
    Vista 64 OS

and an ATI Radeon HD 3450 video card

I have sony vegas pro 8.0 (build 260)
that is fully registered with SN# and all the updates from sony’s home page .

The camera as stated is a
sony HdR Hc5 1080ib miniDV handy cam

I right click vegas and run as admin,
    select capture video
( HDV or SDI ) *if i pick DV the window pops up and says the device hdr hc5 could not be opened please make sure it is turned on and not being used by another application or user , which of course it isnt .
    select capture video
    ( HDV or SDI )
and the capture window appears in the toolbar.
    with the word STOPPED .
if i press play, it will play the video on the camera but not in the capture window ( video preview in vegas)the capture window stays blue and will not show me what is playing on the camera ( like it should )
when i press record it will say
Capturing *name of file* .mt2 0mb . o dropped framed.
however the preview is still blue .
and there is no files to be found , no captured footage in the project media bin ,ect
i reload the device a few times and nothing changes ,
i have full control of the camera from vegas .
also i can capture video “live” from the camera
( that is to say , if i record through the camera it will capture it and the preview window shows what i am capturing/filming )

can anyone out there please tell me what i am doing wrong .
or is there a setting im missing ?
    I need help … please ..

    thanks .

In your camera OSD options, you should be able to choose an output format or a downconvert format. Make sure these settings are set appropriately for how you are trying to capture.

I would say it appears that your firewire port on the cam has shorted out, but it appears that is not the case due to the fact that you can control the cam via Vegas.

What settings are you using for pushing the footage from the camera to the PC?
