Ready to trash Vegas-DVD’s will not play-HELP!
I recently purchased Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro simply because I was tired of both Pinnacle’s instability and Liquid’s poor work flow. I do appreciate a lot of Vegas’ functionality but after burning through 25 DVD’s, many hours of frustration, and not one plays on a standard DVD player I am ready to relegate my efforts back to Liquid. If anyone can provide any assistance I would be eternally grateful.
I am running the system at default settings at this point and use the DVD Wizard to link to DVD Architect 4.5. And I use the default settings in Architect. Supposedly, and from everything I read, it should create a compatible DVD. HeHe. They play on my computer – never an error in prepare or burn – but they will not play on a standard DVD player.
This has to be a simple fix. Even with Liquid Professional I was able to burn a functional DVD in a few hours. By the way, I am running 9.0b build 92.

What DVD player are you attempting to play it on and what media are you using?
I have been using Vegas and DVD A since version 4 of Vegas and have been burning fine. I have found that on some older DVD players it may not work correctly due to incompatibility wiht burned DVD’s. One thing that may help is if you have Nero is to use +R discs and change the book type to ROM as opposed to +R.
Depending on what version you have, go to the Recorder menu and select “Choose Recorder”. Then choose the desired drive, and click the “options” button. Then in the drop down select ROM for book type.

Thanks Jeremy, I truly appreciate your response. I have not tried a third-party burner like Nero. I do have it but, I really feel that Vegas should be able to complete the entire task. That is why I purchased it and that is what I expect. I can complete a project in Liquid but I think Vegas is a more stable platform if I can figure out this simply stupid issue.

Well, what DVD player are you using? Is it older? What media are you using for discs?
I would like to be able to help but I really can’t unless you give more details. You say it will play on your computer but not on the stand alone unit. Have you tried it on other DVD players?
I used to use Nero several versions ago to burn as opposed to DVDA but now I just burn straight from DVDA.
What are the output streams you are using for video? For audio?
Can you give some more details?

Somehow I failed to find the post you were directing me to. Nonetheless, I do think there is a problem with Platinum Pro. I downloaded the trial version of Vegas 8 Pro and Arch. 5.0 Pro. And I created a small project with stills (4), rendered the video and audio files separately, prepared the project in Arch 5.0, burned the project, and it played flawlessly – first time!Next, I prepared the same project (exactly – same audio and video files) in Platinum 9.0b, manually rendered both video and audio with the same settings used in 8.0 Pro and the DVD was not recognized by the same player.
I’ve been around the block a few times and have worked with numerous analog and digital editors but this has me completely dumbfounded. One application will, and one application will not!

1. Please answer my questions above so I can help you better.
2. What are you rendering out to in the trial of Vegas 8pro- you should not be capable of producing mpg video streams so what did you import into DVDA? If you are using another file format such as avi, then DVDA has to recompress. I am unsure if the platinum version does this or not (as I don’t own it) and that may be your problem.
Answering my questions above would greatly help aide me in helping you.
