    Hi
I just recently purchased a Sony Handycam (HD/AVCHD). I realized after purchasing that I need specific software if I wish to edit my home movies. I usually record in SD but occasionally in AVCHD. Which Vegas software do you recommend? I’m not a pro by any stretch of the imagination.
    I appreciate any assistance.

I would recommend you purchase AVCHD Upshift to convert your AVC files to a file type that is better suited for editing. You can find that converter here.

Then you could go with any of the Sony Vegas products (except the one in the yellow-orangish box as I don’t think it supports AVCHD. Pick the one that suites your needs for what you want to do. If you tell us a little bit more about what you want to do with these videos you are making, we can make a better suggestion.

Thank you so much for your quick response! I’ve looked at the site you’ve referred me to. In the “Vegas Family Comparison table” it lists Vegas Pro as being the only one that has “SD/HD-SDI support.”
Does that mean I have to purchase the Vegas Pro to edit the films I took in SD or does this mean something altogether different?
As for what I want to do, I basically want to edit the family videos. I also do work overseas and would like to edit some videos from these trips as well. Adding background music and nice transitions is the core of what I do with my videos at this point.
    Thanks again

That’s something completely different. Any of the Vegas products will edit standard definition digital video. However the basic Vegas (the one in the yellow-orangish box) will not edit AVCHD as far as I could tell by reading the description (I only have the pro version but the others showed AVCHD as an option in the spec’s list).

Let us know if you need anything further with this selection! Also, once you get your product, be sure to stop back in with any questions you may have; we’re here to help!
