  quality issue

  I edit with sony vegas 6 , and I shoot with a sony hdr hc1 1080i camcorder. I have been pulling footage from my camera with straight fire wire into my PC. It creates a m2t file, which is a very large file. So I have been rendering the m2t files to an mpeg2 file in order to be able to work with the video without it bogging my system. My finished product is an mpeg2 file and looks pretty good. My question is: Is there anything I should do differently that could possibly increase quality or help me in any way. I am trying to get started doing some local projects, and just want to have my ducks in a row. Also Is the m2t file an hd file and if so when rendered to an mpeg2 does it hold the HD integrity…

  Not compared to “uncompressed”! 🙂

  Hmm… You’ve been taking an MPEG2 file (m2t = Mpeg 2 Transport Stream) and compressing to another MPEG2 file??? Not sure that makes sense.

  If you’re wanting to use a different format that might be easier for your computer to handle, I’d lean toward the Cineform codec instead of MPEG2.

  If you were rendering SD MPEG2, I’d consider going to just standard DV-AVI instead of MPEG2. DV-AVI is probably the easiest format for Vegas to use.
