    I know that you can capture from a camera but is it possible to capture from a VCR? I want to edit and burn some of my old video tapes as DVD.s Also if it is possible do I need any special hardware or upgrade to my video card? I have a nvidia geforce 4 ti 4600. Someone had suggested I get pinnacles dazzle but ive read bad reviews online and I hope Vegas can do what I need to do. Thanks

    Here’s how I do it:

    VCR -> analog -> camera/deck/convertor -> firewire -> computer

    Make sure “Device Control” is turned off in the capture program, start capturing, and then press Play on the VCR.

    Your camera has to have “pass-thru” capability to do this (most do) and you may have to change a menu setting in the camera.

    If you want to look at a convertor, look at the Canopus ADVC series or the ADS Pyro.

    Thank you so much. One problem though. I dont have a camera. I used someone elses to shoot the film and I dont have access to it at the moment. Anyway to just connect the computer to the vcr? I assume thats what the convertor would be for?

    Do check out the convertors I mentioned. That’s your best method.
