I need to know how to move an image freely on the timeline. In other words,
once the image is imported onto the timeline, it has a black backround. I want to be able to move this image all around on the background. I had a couple of pictures that were portrait style, and I could not move them from side to side on the background. What do I do? I am trying to use images along with motion backgrounds so I need to be able to move them freely.

    Thanks,
    Donna

Open Pan/Crop, right-click the image, choose “Match Output Aspect”.

Alternately, you can use a script to set the “Match Output Aspect” on many images at once.

I tried this and I still can’t get it to move around on the black background. In other words, if I have a portrait style photo, I can not move it from side to side on the black bg. It simply gets more narrow as I try to move it. Any other advice?

If Match output Aspect is picked, it will fill the full width of the screen. You can then move it as needed using either pan/Crop or Track Motion.

To be honest, it’s usually best to use the best tool for the job. Use Pan/Crop to pan and/or crop the image. Use Track Motion to move the image.
