Having just advised another member how to capture video, I am now in trouble. I have a Sony VX2100 connected by firewire to my PC. By mistake I somehow connected the firewire cable the wrong way round in to the PC! I then reconnected it and have tried everything since, including a new cable, but the vegas Movie Studio capture does not detect my camera. The Video dialogue no longer shows the option for my camcorder; it gives two other options which are unrelated viz; my spycam and an old Pinnacle entry. Can it be that my 1394 socket on my PC is damaged? It looks all right and the System device manager says that it is working. Could the ilink on my camcorder have been affected by the original misconnection? A Sony advisor said that this was unlikely. Or am I missing the Windows camera connection that I think used to show when I was connected? I have had no trouble before now in capturing video with this setup and I have tried all the tricks suggested on the Movie Studio help screen. Any ideas please?

Additional data. I seem to remember that when I previously connected my camcorder to the PC there was a “bong” sound from the PC. This seems to have stopped!

Unfortunately, you probably now have a blown firewire port on your camera which would need to be repaired. Try another camera and I bet that one will work.

I feared as much. Seems a fairly common occurrence. I will get quote for repair but if excessive might be better off to get good used small mini dv camera to use for playback. This would reduce wear on the vx2100 heads. What do you think?
