I’ve captured tapes before to vegas from my vx2100 but tonight for some reason It says no device detected. I’m thinking i’m doing the right steps, but now i’m confused. I connected my camera with a firewire. In vegas I went to file then capture video. Then to options, preferences and checked enable dv device control…..on my camera i went to menu and set it to A/V DV OUT ON.
I have the camera in vcr mode. The tape is in the camera at the beginning. I don’t see what i’m missing……doing wrong? Appreciate your help……Gary

When you turn on the camera, does WINDOWS detect it? (i.e. you get the noise from Windows and it pops up the box asking what you want to do).

Have you tried a different cable?

No windows is not detecting it. I tried another firewire and nothing happened. Do you think it could be the firewire card?

for cables can you use a mini camera connection to a usb rather then firewire connection for the same results if you have a newer computer with the fast usb connections? I was thinking of getting one to try that out in case my firewire card is messed up? also on my vx2100 is the A/V DV OUT suppose to be ON OR OFF? I think its suppose to be ON but I’m rattled now and can’t remember. Thanks for any help…Gary

No. You need to use the firewire connection. Unfortunately, it could be the firewire card, the cable, the camera, etc…

Do you have another firewire camera? Does windows detect it when it’s turned on? That would rule out computer and cable.

Edward…I plugged my other camera in and it works with that camera. same model camera vx2100. so what does that mean? my camera’s jack is burned out? I have the camera’s A/V DV OUT both set to ON. There’s no other settings on my camera to check is there? Thanks….

I know of no other menu settings but I also don’t have that camera. The fact that the other one works does not bode well. I would first try that camera on another computer “just in case”. If it also does not work there, I would suspect a bad firewire port on the camera.
