Unfortunately I don’t recall the technical name for this.

When I was using Pinnacle Studio, it had the ability to have white text but put a black border around the text (so no matter what I put the text over it still showed) I’d like to do that in vegas (rather than having to choose a text colour that will be readable over the video that it’s playing on, is that possible? I’ve looked through a lot of options and still can’t find out how I can do this.

    Thanks

Yes it is possible. Add a text generated media to the timeline. In the text dialog, go to the Effects tab. Check the “draw outline” checkbox and change the outline color to Black. Adjust the width and feather as desired and you’re done.

I’m using credit rolls because I like text to move in and out, or fade in and out, rather than just being static on the page that I put it on.

So can you do it with a credit roll, or can you make text move with the regular text function (like fade in and out, or move in from the right and off to the left or…)

    Thanks

A credit roll definitely has several in/out options per line. I’m not partial to the credit roll but, instead, prefer the general text generated media. I do have a newsletter article on using the credit roll.
