Sony DCR-DVD92 NTSC Camcorder vs. Vegas Movie Studio+DVD
Several weeks ago I purchased above camcorder, with the promise from Circuit City that I could download and edit resulting video on my computer and in my present program–Pinnacle Studio 9. So, I took several hours of video on a mini-DVD, most of which is for a company presentation.
I had no luck using Studio 9, so after using nearly two days of vacation back and forth with Sony, I was told to buy a Vegas product and I’d be up and running, so I bought the above-referenced.
I finally got the video downloaded into Vegas, but it is in mpeg-2 format and I’m unable to split the frames. I need to cut 2+ hours of machinery running down to about six minutes.
Do I have the correct Vegas program? I hate to keep spending money without promise that something is going to work. I use Windows XP 2. Any ideas or help?
I’ve never asked for help like this before, so I apologize if this is in wrong format.

Vegas Movie Studio 6, Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 6, and the full Vegas 6.0c all allow importing from camcorder DVDs. In the full version, you just do a File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc and point it to that disc. I’m sure it’s similar in either of the Movie Studio products. That should let you import and edit that video.
Having said all of that, MPEG2 is NOT a good editing format – it’s a fine destination format (i.e. creating DVDs). Instead, you should have gotten a MiniDV camcorder which you then capture via firewire to standard DV-AVI files. DV-AVI files are designed to be edited. The final step would be to render to MPEG2 to output to DVD.
