  Could not open file. The reason for the error could not be determined.

  Here is the actual error message directly from sony vegas pro 12:
  “Warning: An error occurred while opening one or more files.
  The reason for the error could not be determined.”

  When I click details it states:
  “File C:\Users\User 1\Videos\Overwolf\Counter-Strike Global Offensive 05-06-2016 17-29-14-008.mp4 could not be opened.”

  It is an MP4 file which I recorded with a program called Overwolf. I recorded something yesterday and it worked just fine. It is just today I can’t use the recording in sony vegas. I have tried different presets for videos and I have not turned off my computer since then.

  Any extra information you need just let me know what and how to get it. Thanks for anyone who can help.

  Vegas is very picky about the MP4’s it will accept. The problem, most likely, is that Vegas, and all high end editors, expect a constant frame rate recording, whereas most game recording software records with a variable frame rate. Post a MediaInfo screenshot of your file. Your solutions: better recording software that plays well with Vegas or re-render your MP4 in Handbrake, making sure that you have selected a constant frame rate output.

  When you say it worked quite well, was that it was working in Vegas? To not work the next day I would also find irritating. If you use MediaInfo you get to see if a CODEC for that MP4 isn’t present. Often users miss this. Need more information.

  Have you already tried the basic? Restarting your system!
  Also Windows automatic updates at times has a hand in these little
  nags…(One day working well, another day not working).
