Vegas Pro 10
I know my software is old but I need to know if I can use the DAW part of the package as a live audio recorder. If so how do I get it started? Can’t figure that out?

I have no experience, with Vegas 10 – so I couldn’t say if that’s possible. Maybe someone else has a better idea?
But, I do know of a fairly cheap solution. You could use a program called ‘Reaper’ https://www.reaper.fm/ it’s not very expensive, $60 for a discounted license.
It’s the software I use when I do a live stream. You can add various effects like noise cancellation, eq, compressor etc. – here is a useful tutorial if you’re interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2ROArGlpG4 This is how to set it up for use with OBS (a video streaming program) I’m sure it would work with other programs. If you are using a USB mic, you would also need to use ‘Virtual Audio Cable’ mentioned in the tutorial. I think you could skip that step if you’re using a USB mixer, but I don’t have experience with that.

there is a program on avs4you.com that is the same price but you get 20 software packages with it. If I can’t get the DAW program to work I will purchase it.

Vegas started as a DAW so yes… it is very capable for recording live audio.

What can’t you figure out? How many tracks do you want to record simultaneously? Assuming you have an audio device that’s capable of recording multiple tracks:
- You add an audio track for every input that you want to record.
- Assign each track to one of the inputs.
- ARM each track that you want to record.
- Press the record button to record the tracks.
Just like every other DAW.

I couldn’t get Vegas to see the signal coming in. I knew how to get all the rest to work but didn’t see the signal. I run a Osprey video/audio mixer card and I was able to pull up a cheap audio recording program and record. Just I want to use what I got.

Do you see anything specific to your mixer showing up under Sony Vegas Pro Options…Preferences…Audio Device?

No actually I couldn’t see the device in Vegas at all. I could see it in any other program I was using just not Vegas. i will go back over there to see if I can see it as I am not pushed today as I was before church yesterday.

Does that card have ASIO drivers? If so, make sure they are installed and selected under Options | Preferences | Audio Device. Most good audio cards will have ASIO drivers. If not, you can use ASIO4ALL but you really should buy a card with ASIO drivers to control latency.
If the card doesn’t have ASIO drivers then it should be seen as just the Microsoft SoundMapper which is the default Windows audio driver. This is really not optimal for recording but it should still work.
In either case, you should be able to assign inputs to an audio track. Can you post a screen shot of what the inputs on the track look like?

I can once I get over there. This is not a sound card per se but a video/audio mixer input card. There are no outputs on the card.

Having an Osprey card on my production PC running Vegas 10 (although I don’t use it for audio) its inputs appear on the Microsoft Sound mapper so you can select a pair there and then select the Microsoft Sound Mapper in Vegas to record audio from it.
But you can’t get multiple inputs as the card doesn’t speak ASIO so you will have to be satisfied with two mono (or one stereo) inputs only.
