rendering mpeg2 to mp4
I have asked similar questions before about rendering however I am still really confused. Please help me in ‘layman’s’ terms.
(a) I have 100’s of hours of footage in mpeg2, pal, 4:3, format.
(b) I want to compress so that I have more room on the hard drive, and ALSO so that any teacher can use on any machine (pc or mac) so something very ‘readable’ please. Teachers are coming back to me now saying they don’t have DVD drives. So I’m wanting to put onto usb. At this stage online streaming is not available due to various in-house reasons.
(c) I have Vegas 13.
(d) I dropped an mpeg2 file into the timeline. answer the question ‘ do you want Vegas to use the project settings from this footage (or something similar)’ “yes”.
(e) Then immediately I tried ‘render as’.
(f) All the mp4 options were greyed out. I couldn’t choose any of them.
(g) I use mpeg2/pal/4.3 purely because that’s all I know! If something else will work please let me know. I think most teachers will use on an electronic whiteboard to view or a pc or mac. however if they use a dvd player, pal is the useable format in australia.
(h) Please advise if you think I should compress in some other way.Thank you.
