  • How may I open in Vegas a file encoded in tsc2 video and mp4a audio?

Posted by Xavier Dolz on January 29, 2016 at 3:23 am

Hi, I’d like to open trec files from Camtasia and edit them in Vegas.
These files are encoded with a video codec called tsc2
I think that stand for TechSmith Screen Codec 2
The audio is encoded in mp4a
What I want is to drag and drop the trec file directly into the Vegas timeline and start editing it.
Or in the worst case converting trec files into a file format understable for vegas.
Any idea about how may I do this?
    Cheers

    Do I need the codec?
I have Camtasia Installed so the codec should be present in my system…
    This is what Techsmith says…

    https://www.techsmith.com/codecs.html
    TSC2 Codec
The TechSmith Screen Codec v2 (TSC2) is included with Camtasia. Download this decoder to play an AVI or MOV file that is encoded with TSC2 on a system where Camtasia is not installed.

Also I want to open a trec file, so I guess it is a container and inside we would have an AVI or MOV file, encodec in TSC2. I guess we have two problems.

    1) Open the trec file (container for the AVI / MOV, etc.)

    2) Make VEGAS understand the encodec file in TSC2

The problem seems to be that you are saving your files as trec rather than avi. I only have a very old version of Camtasia that gives the options of recording avi or camrec files. Apparently, starting with version 8.4 it changed from camrec to trec. To quote from their website.

These files can be used to build and produce videos with the Camtasia Editor, but are not sharable videos in themselves. For example, you cannot upload a .TREC or .CAMREC to YouTube, nor can you ask someone to view those files using a standard media player. Camtasia recordings can only be opened with Camtasia.

In the past when using Camtasia, I always recorded avi files which had no problem being imported into Vegas. You might search for a way to transcode these trec files to avi. In the future, save as an avi. Good luck.

    +1

If you don’t want to edit with Camtasia’s editor, then don’t record TREC files. Record AVI instead.
