Render without losing quality ?
I have a crazy workflow so please bear with me. I am editing a multicam project using Sony Movie Studio which is fairly close to Vegas for basic edits. I am making simple edits, cuts and envelopes. Next step is to render and use a different NLE to finish. This means the final video will be rendered once by Sony and a second time with different NLE. Is there a recommended format to render too from Sony to keep first render as close to original quality as possible?

The recommendation is to use a Digital Intermediary when rendering across your production pipeline. CineForm AVI has long been the favorite DI format for Vegas Pro. Avid DNxHD is also a Digital Intermediary in a QuickTime MOV container. This would be a great format if the other NLE was on a Mac. Some people use Sony MXF HD422 50Mbps because it retains it’s quality well, but Sony MXF is not a DI.
You also have to consider what formats the other NLE can ingest.

Thanks John, those formats look way over my head 🙂
It keeps selecting the format below but I assume I will lose quality? This is the original file format as well. I am not a Mac, a PC running Videostudiopro X8

Rendering out to AVCHD should be fine. One or two renders are not going to lose any visible quality as long as you are using a high bit rate which the AVCHD @ 16Mbps does.
