  Which program to record

  There is the occasional TV program that I would like to keep a fairly good copy for reference copy but I want a smaller file. I’m thinking saving to either MP4 or MKV in Pal 720×576.

  The question arises as to which source to select in the first place. The local stations often broadcast the exact same program at the same time in both 1440×1080 & 720X576 MPEG2. The first file would need more compression but would be much better quality to start with. Which one do I record?

  I see that I said the files recorded was MPEG2 when actually it’s MPEG2TS, if this makes any difference. As far as I know the only difference is that the TS version also has features like subtitles embedded in it. If this is the case is there any way for Vegas Pro to see & keep these subtitles?
