  • File IO Surragate in Task Manager Crashes Sony When Task Ends

    Hi Everyone:

I am trying to remove File IO Surrogate from my Task Manager from Processes. When I click End Task, it crashes my Sony. This never a happened before and I am wondering if I have a larger issue. Has this ever happen to you?

I was rendering DNxHD and all was going smoothly, except I was having some sync issues and would attempt to render after file modification. My last render had lots of flickering so I searched everywhere to see if I could find the problem. When I looked in Task Manager I saw File IO Surrogate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Debbie

PS: I did update my Norton last night. My rendering has been different since. I deactivate everything when I render; that is, Internet and other specific Task Manager processes. I also deactivate Windows and Norton updates also.

FileIoSurrogate is a process used by Sony Vegas to interface with 32-bit codecs. Quicktime is always 32-bit.

If you terminate FileIoSurrogate while Vegas is running, then Vegas is not going to like this as you have found out.

No, don’t delete File IO Surrogate while Vegas is running, its part of it’s
processing, so that’s why it crashes.
Norton is a death trap, you shouldn’t even have it installed on your editing
system, i stay far away from anything Norton and advise everyone accordingly.
And the fact that things start behaving oddly since you update it, is a clear
sign and deactivating it alone wont help.
There are other far less intrusive and resource hogging Antivirus out there.
