creating time lapse w/ 3680 x 2074 jpg
I have gone over this several times and keep getting the same issue. Arbitrarily the image will flip (180 degrees) in both the preview window and the rendered mp4 file. The images will sometimes flip when tabbing along the timeline as well.
Here’s my workflow…I am creating a veg file then importing the jpgs for that clip. I am importing at 60 fps, one image per frame. The jpg’s are 3680 x 2074. I save the veg file with just this batch of images.
I then create a veg file for each batch of images. The veg file properties are 3680×2074 60 fps.
In a new project I import the veg files and place them on the timeline. Sometimes the clips will play fine and other times the images flip 180 degrees. I have placed a crop/pan and moved the pan around and sometimes it works, other times the image flips.
Currently I am working with 4 veg files on the timeline. This is just for testing. In the final project I would imagine there would be 50-100 veg file along with some mov files.
The computer has 32G of RAM and is 64 bit.
I have been using Vegas for around 5 years now. Started with the base version and now using the 64 bit pro version. It has been buggy most of these years. Crashes, lock up during rendering, etc. On my second video editing computer. It is difficult for me to know whether I am doing something to cause this issue or this is just another side of Vegas’s difficult personality.
Any help would be appreciated. I have searched but havent come across anything that has helped.

Which version of Vegas are you using? I seem to remember that Vegas is not happy with very large jpgs. What will be the final viewing device?

Are you importing them as an Image Sequence or are you dropping individual picture on the timeline? You should be using an Image Sequence.

I am using Vegas 12 Pro. Yes the 32 bit version really struggled with large jpg’s. The 64 bit version does much better. Final viewing device would be vimeo. Yes, I could reduce the size of the jpgs but I wouldn’t be able to crop/pan and still be HD.
Regarding the import process, I am selecting all the images from the media pool and dragging them all simultaneously onto the time line. Each image has a length of .02 for 1 frame at 60 fps. I am not sure this qualifies as importing as a image sequence. I will have to look into that.
I import that veg file into another project so there is just one file and not 700-900 individual images.

Thank you John I located the image sequence check box. No I did not utilize this when importing. Will give it a go.

Yea, that’s the proper way to import images as a video. Once they are loaded you can tell Vegas Pro to interpret them as 60p and it will do the right thing.

Thanks, that works but still have the same issue.
Turns out there are a couple of sequences where the images are 7360 x 4140. Based on the properties dialog box it appears that the max is 4096 x 4096.
Looks like I need to export these out of Lightroom at a lower resolution.

Yes, you should output at the resolution that you will deliver which would be the resolution of your project. Everything has to match.
