What formats & containers are the best for ripping DVD to and Editing in Sony Vegas?
I’m doing a project with large number of clips from various movies and I want to make sure I use
the right format and container to make sure I don’t’ have any problems when I’m editing them all together, rendering or playing the final video in my media players. I use WMP and VLC. I have powerful enough computer but I’m usually not ripping entire DVDs, just clips for vidding.

Audit all your Media. Those that don’t or aren’t recognised by Vegas you will need to conform to Vegas.

Aren’t DVD movies MPEG-2? I would assume you’d want to rip them with the same codec, that way you’re not converting them to something different. But maybe I’m wrong.

As far as I know,Sony vegas cannot handel DVD and DVD folders. I think you need to rip DVD into MPEG-2, the most compatible video format for Vegas so that Sony Vegas can support well.
