  Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 – Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)

  Hi there,

  I am wondering if anyone can offer any help with an error I am experiencing with Sony Vegas Pro 9.0. SV has been closing down with a ‘problem report’ (listed further below) when I try to import a video file or picture. Some are avi but most are in mp4 format and I have the K-lite standard codecs installed and ffdshow audio and video decoder. I have uninstalled quicktime but that’s not worked. I have been using this version for the last 3 years and will be upgrading soon but need to complete some projects in 9.0 first.

  (3 year old machine that has recently been updated with a new graphics card)

  Some immediate potential issues that leap out are:

  1] K-Lite CODEC Pack? When did you install that?

  2] Your VP9 is Build 562. The very last Builds were either 1147 or 1146.

  3] How much space are you running on?

  4] You say that you have issues with MP4. This means absolutely nothing if you don’t also say WHAT is inside it? Same for the AVI.

  Get some info back here about my 4] above.

  Hey, thanks for responding.

  1] K-Lite CODEC Pack was installed on January 2013 and then appears to have a new folder version 31st August 2014

  2] Your VP9 is Build 562. The very last Builds were either 1147 or 1146. Should I try VP9.0e? Will my configurations files still be viewable on this newer build?

  3] 2TB on C-drive with 1TB still free and 1TB internal storage (again, half is free) and another 1TB external drive.

  4] I usually experience issues with AVI and MKV music video or movie/show videos in SV so I convert them in to MP4 before editing them in SV.

  That error message (comctl32.DLL) is a Microsoft Visual Basic control used for creating the item boxes. The software is crashing while opening because it can’t create the boxes used for listing or grouping items. Something in your system corrupted it. Best bet is to uninstall and reinstall Vegas Pro (download the latest version first). And don’t install any of those codec packs as their not needed.
