    Hey people,

I am recently a editor of skateboarding videos and im looking for some fresh stuff to add.Lately i’ve seen a video of invisible skateboarding ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU7XWReIur0 ) and figured i would want to do this kind of effect(removing only skateboard from the video). So is it possible to do this kind of effect in after effects.? And how.?

Big Thanks to all of You.

Yes, but you’ll be using some pretty advanced tracking, rotoscoping and painting techniques. What’s more, you need to make sure that you shoot appropriate plates (empty shots) to replace the holes in your footage.

    This is a big subject.

In terms of software, you might find that Shake or Nuke is more appropriate to what you want to do. After Effects is a pretty good compositor, but these other two apps are built for it and nothing else.

or you could try mokey from imagineer systems. It was designed for this sort of thing – and you can often get away without shooting plates.

The previous posters are correct that AE is not necessarily the best tool out there for this, but as was previously mentioned, it could do it.

If you want the camera to be moving, it will make things much more difficult. You can do this in AE with a camera on a tripod relatively easily. You take a shot without the skateboarder in it, have him do his thing, then using rotoscoping, cut out the skateboard. However, depending on the trick he does, you may have to paint in the bottoms of his shoes, his shadow, parts of his legs/trousers, etc..

If you want to do a shot with the camera moving, it will take quite a lot of work and swearing or a motion control rig, work and swearing.

It also takes a lot of planning
