  The “Jaggies” ???

  I get the”jaggies” on straight edges on moving camera shots from time to time. My default is set to UPPER FIELD. Is there an rhyme or reason why this would change and make you select LOWER FIELD? Or is it always “trial or error”?

  I also always have BLEND FIELDS on.

  What’s the format of your source? What camera? You may be seeing CMOS rolling shutter artifacts.

  Rolling Shutter (Jell-o Effect)
  Rolling shutter is endemic on CMOS chips because of the progressive scanning nature of the electronics. The image is made from scanning top to bottom, much like you read a book. Rolling shutter artifacts occur when something changes in the frame in the time it takes the chip to be fully scanned from top to bottom,

  Because you need to change it from Upper Field first to
  None (Progressive Scan).

  This usually happens when I render my MPGs out in Vegas. When I let DVDA do the rendering, I don’t get them.

  If I render MPGs in Vegas, do I just set the render to progressive or do I need to change that also in Properties?

  Ken, I do a lot of that, no problems.

  My interlaced cam is a Sony HDR-CX550V . I typically shoot in 1920×1080 60i. I make DVDs and Blu-Rays from the footage. No jaggies, just a nice motion blur. The defaults seem to work pretty good.

  Hope this helps, you can always play with Interpolate vs Blend and see what you like best.
