Running 2 sessions of Sony Vegas simultaneously
Posted by Cedric Divang on December 20, 2013 at 5:58 pmHello, is it ok to run 2 sessions of Vegas simultaneously ?
I am rendering a video that takes forever (8 hours) but I need to open another session to encode a small video.
Can I do that without the risk of corrupting the other video ?
Thanks !

December 20, 2013 at 6:37 pmI would just load up a test clip and try it. I’ve never tried launching Vegas twice, but just give it a whirl and see if it works. It’s not going to hurt anything.

December 20, 2013 at 8:21 pmYup, I do it all the time here too. That’s one of the big advantages of using Vegas Pro. You can have multiple copies open at once and be rendering with one, creating scenes with another and assembling everything in another.
BTW, when you use nested projects and right-click and and Edit, Vegas will open a second copy to edit in. So this is the preferred way of working with Vegas.

Cedric not only is it possible to run multiple instances of the same version of SVP, you can also install and run earlier versions of Vegas side by side. Of course, you need to have a machine with good specs to run more than 1 instance of Vegas. I regularly run simultaneous renders (up to 3) and I can still use the PC for other stuff.

I have run 2 instances of Vegas and I can confirm that it worked flawlessly 🙂 I’m even surprised that it didn’t slow down my computer too much (I have an i7 3770 3.4Ghz). This is really a great piece of software 🙂
