is there any loss with the amount of times I render
I am rendering at HD 1920 x 1080p I just finished a 7 hour render and forgot to add a 30 second commercial at the end. I wanted to just add it on to the finished rendered project and not have to re-render the project.
But in general in the digital age technically no matter how many times you render a something it should be loss-less, no?
I come from an analog audio background when decades ago, we used to have to bounce tracks and there was always loss. But now with digital there isn’t.
Is it indeed the same for video? Or is there a limit to amount of renders you could conceivably do? Thx all in advance.

Unless I’m missing something, how would you just “add it onto the end of the project” otherwise?

Yes, there is a gradual loss of quality if doing multiple re-renders,
but the majority of the time its not noticeable.
In your situation, you can easily add that commercial to that already
rendered file, and do one final render…. All will still be well.Steve Rhoden

Yes, despite what the ads say, there is no such thing as lossless compression. You can see the degradation on a scope even when using so-called uncompressed. But to the eye, there is probably not likely to be any visible loss.
But your question raises another question about your workflow. The correct fix would be to add the footage and render again. But if you use the output from the first render on the timeline of the new project, and you use the same render template, loss would be minimal.

The second doc I am working on is Abraham Bolden 1st African American secret service agent handpicked by JFK No, he was not on duty that day or JFK would be alive. He tried in vain to warn of impending doom in Dallas and is haunted by it to this day.

There is a loss of time depending on if you render “drop frame” or non drop frame”. I ran into this with our PBS show. Kept coming up a few frames short until John Rofrano figured the problem out.
