Adobe After Effects Questions
I guess I’ve put off long enough learning AE. At some point you realize you’re gonna have to do it!
It’s just always looked so intimidating to me!
Questions:
1) Does anyone know where I can get AE for the best price?
2) As far as color correction goes, I was looking at Red Giant’s Magic Bullet Looks plugin for SVP, but I notice that AE does color correction as well. How do they compare?
3) What’s the learning curve of AE like?

If you are a serious Pro, yes, at some point you gonna have to
start using it, lol.
Nothing about it is intimidating at all, trust me, once you get
used to it in a couple weeks, you will flowing thru it like Vegas.
Magic Bullet Looks is better integrated and more flexible in AE.The learning curve has its challenges, but with practice you will
be surprised how much you’ve advanced.
Here is a link with some free incredible and detailed tutorials that
can get you up and running in no time. These basic tutorials are
incredibly helpful and clear to get you started Ron.

Do you know the best place online to get AE, meaning the best price?

for me the best place to get AE is a Creative Cloud subscription direct from Adobe. Last year they had a very good promotion for your first year’s subscription – if you are already a customer for one of their products.
They are a bit controversial though, there’s quite a debate between those who want to rent and those who want to buy.

I’m actually downloading the CC trial now. I don’t know if I like the idea of “renting” software. Over the years, that’ll add up to way more than a one-off purchase!

That’s exactly why I’ve stopped using Adobe products so if you don’t like “renting” and having all of your projects become useless they day you stop renting the software to edit them, I would not bother with learning AE because it will cost you a small fortune. I only upgraded my Adobe products every other release so CC would cost me twice as much as I have been spending on their products in the past. I also can’t afford to be held hostage to a perpetual rental. If they allowed you to continue to use the last version you paid for I might re-consider but their, “you stop paying it stops working” mentality is a deal-breaker for me.
IMHO, you would be much better off purchasing Magic Bullet and using it with Vegas Pro. There is no learning curve and I’m still using the Magic Bullet I bought several years ago and it hasn’t cost me a penny since then. With Adobe you will pay, and pay, and pay.

Hate the whole Creative Cloud renting concept, real nonsense.
I have and using CS6 suite, but have no intention of ever upgrading

The only reason I upgrade is when I have a new camera whose raw format is not supported by my old version of Photoshop. In the future, I plan to work around that problem. Dng is a possibility, but I just recently realized that Lightroom is MUCH cheaper than Photoshop and its included suite. If I ever need to process raw from a new camera, I will be looking to do it with Lightroom, output to Tif, and use the tif in my “old” Photoshop. That’s assuming of course that I still want or need Adobe for the raw function.

There is always a work-around.
