For anyone who’s purchased/used DJ’s new Drag and Drop items (.mov files).

After installing a DJ DnD package into the Juicer and then exporting an item, you have something like:

    [1] X:/DigitalJuice/Juicer 3/Catalog/DNDLS_V01D01D_R1/Source/BouncingGlow.mov
    [2] X:/Exported/DigitalJuice/DragDrop/LightSweeps/BouncingGlow_exported.mov

[1] is the original from installation; [2] is the Juicer-ed export

    The Test Setup
    a. Put [1] in Track 1; Compositing Mode Add; Mute
    b. Put [2] in Track 2; Compositing Mode Add; Mute
    c. Put a jpg in Track 3
    d. Move timeline cursor into the DnD event.
    e. Unmute Track 1; take a look; Mute
    f. Unmute Track 2; take a look; Mute

I’m seeing the SAME thing in (e) and (f); i.e., the same result using the Source .mov [1] as with the Juicer-ed .mov [2].

    .mov Details
    [1]
    12 MB
    1920x1080x24
    60
    Progressive Scan
    66.3 Mbps

    [2]
    121 MB
    1920x1080x32
    29.97 (NTSC)
    Progressive Scan
    664 Mbps

The only changes between [1] and [2] are:
    – 60 fps to 29.97 fps
    – 66.3 Mbps to 664 Mbps

A framerate change and a TENFOLD increase in the bitrate.

    Questions
    1. Is the Juicer making an unnecessary bitrate increase?
    2. Is there any downside to using the “Source” .mov, as [1] above.

    Thanks.

There is NO downside using the “source”.mov files.
And i doubt there is any bitrate increase.

Just save the contents in the source folders of your Drag and Drop
collections, so that you dont have to use the Juicer again when you are ready to work.
