Question about glow and color effects on a rain layer
Hi! Here’s what I’m trying to achieve: I have a layer with the CC Rain effect on it. I’d like each drop in the layer to be a random color from a pallet of 6 different colors. On top of that I’d like to have a glow effect on the layer.
I’m rather new to AE so I really have no idea how to achieve the different colored rain drops. For the glow, I assume I would just use a Glow effect but the effect alters all layers underneath itself, and I only want it to affect the rain layer. Any idea how I could achieve this? Thanks for any help!

There is no layer mapping function in CC Rain so you can forget random colorization for individual particles directly in the simulation.
Extracting the rain particles from the layer itself and applying alpha effects such as glows will require some precomping and careful alpha construction from copies or iterations of the rain output.I’d render a rain movie and play with the reimported movie rather than trying to mess with the filter in a live layer.
If you examine Rain’s output, you can see that some of the CC particle systems can create similar particle images. They may be easier to colorize.
There are other particle systems that can create randomly colored particles. The only one I have is part of Delerium. A bit expensive and they still render rather slowly but DigiEffects makes great toys.

Thanks David! I was able to get what I was going for by just using one copy of the rain composition for each color and displaying them at once. Yay!
