  • Capturing ok when importing but preview (in capture) screen is black

Posted by Linda O’connell on September 13, 2013 at 9:05 pm

I have a very old computer (Vista) that I just use for importing video. When I import (no matter if it’s from a firewire or ADVC Canupus) the video will show on the import preview screen.

BUT as soon as I hit “Capture Video” the video disappears. When I hit stop, the video has imported correctly and everything is fine.

When I import with Sony moviEZ it does the same thing.

When I import with windows media it does show the video.

This has been an outgoing problem. Any suggestions

Linda, I’ve recently had this while needing to capture “old” VHS analogue. And yes, I had the “Always Allow Show Preview While Capturing” selected. I don’t have a remedy.

    Cheers

That is exacatly what I was doing (transferring a VHS) but what is weird is it is happening when I use a firewire also. I used to use a different Vista computer and it worked fine. I am wondering if it’s some setting on the computer itself.
    Thanks anyway.

    FOUND THE PROBLEM!
I found on another forum to check the motherboard fire wire brand. Apparently, Texas Instruments & other brands have problems with Vegas. I bought another fire wire port online for $25 installed and perfect. It works. I now get the preview window.
What is weird is the brand of fire wire I bought after market is also Texas Instruments (I didn’t know that when I bought it) and the after market works fine. So it must have something to do with the factory one.
