Videos are freezing on Sony Vegas . Why??
I have the full version of Sony Vegas Pro 12, and I have a Lenovo Y580 Laptop . Sony Vegas has been working on my laptop with no issues at all since January . My laptop would play and render videos without any trouble.
Until two days ago. Sometimes when I play videos on Vegas or try to edit, the video itself begins to freeze. While the audio will continue to play perfectly. If I restart my laptop videos will work temporarily, but then it’ll go back to the same freezing issues.

And another weird thing, is that Vegas now apparently taking a hell of a lot of memory on my laptop.
I dont ever remember Vegas taking more than 50% of my memory unless I’m rendering something. But i’m not. Even when I close other applications like firefox, it still appears like this.
Anyway to solve this, or any explanation as to why my videos on Vegas are freezing ? The only possible explanation is me accidentally clicking on a porn site. But i obviously closed it out immediately and tried using Malware Bytes and Windows Defender Quick Scan, but they both found nothing.
Some notes: I haven noticed that my laptop heats more on the left side, rather than the right side. When I’m playing PC games, it gets heated to the point where i cant type on my keyboard due to the heat.

Have you installed any recent video games, Updates
or software on this laptop? … If you did, uninstall it/them.
Also if any recent Windows update was installed recently,
uninstall it too.

A lot of things come to mind. Most laptop processors will slow down the clock speed when they get hot. Download and run CoreTemp (it’s free) and monitor your processor temps while running Vegas. I am not a fan of laptops for editing, but when is the last time you opened the case to remove the dust bunnies?
Just exiting a program does not remove it from memory. Firefox, Chrome and all Microsoft Office programs remain in memory so that the next time you run them, they start working faster than if you had to start cold.
You don’t say how long it works “temporarily” – is it seconds, minutes, hours? You could be hitting your Pagefile, which will slow the running programs to a crawl. What is your Pagefile configuration? How much free space is on your system drive? Do you only have one drive? How much RAM?

Other than Windows automatically updating for me, no I haven’t installed anything else. I uninstalled the latest windows updates, and the problem still exists. Even with sticking to the updates before the vegas problem even occured.
I haven’t opened up any part of my laptop, and i’ve had it since January. is it okay to use a compressed air can for my laptop? or are there better alternative methods for cleaning the insides?

It seems to vary. Sometimes when I open it up it automatically slows down. Other times it takes 5 minutes before it slows down, or even 25-30 minutes before it slows down and starts to freeze up. The video only,not the audio
I have 668GB of Hardrive Space out of 884GB. with a SSD.(21.9 GB right now)
I have 8GB Ram, DDR3.4GB of ram on each side(Two slots)7.87 GB is usable

This makes no sense. Do you have two disk drives? Is drive C an SSD?

no Drive C is my regular hard drive, while Drive D is the SSD, which specifically mentions that it has 21.9 GB.
Anyway, i’m not seeing the relevance, nor why you ignored the rest of my post. considering I’ve been using Drive C/internal Harddrive for everything in regards to applications and programs. If Drive D has some sort of relevance then please tell me so I can fix this issue. As i’ve never had any intentional use for it. And my HD space is no where near out, so I doubt it’s an issue with space or ram considering i’ve edited and used vegas perfectly on this laptop prior to this current issue.

I’m not ignoring the rest of your post, but I got called away. Besides, I like to focus on one point at a time.
So, your O/S and Vegas are on Drive C:, and what is on the SSD? That is still confusing. This is a laptop – are there two drives in it? I use external drives with Vegas all the time, so that isn’t an issue. But if everything (O/S, programs and data) are on a single drive, then performance will suffer slightly.
Your temps look fine, so forget that as the issue. BTW compressed air in a laptop can be bad news because it just shoves the dust further into tiny crevices, and possibly into the moving parts in the DVD drive.
In Vegas Preferences, how much Preview RAM do you have set aside? If you never use Shift-B preview, you don’t need much. Some say zero, but someone did experiments a few years ago (I don’t recall who), and determined that Vegas needs some Preview RAM even if you never use Shift-B preview. 1Mb was the sweet spot.
