Vegas Half A Second Out Of Sync Problem
Hey I have asked this question before with no luck, I was hoping maybe someone else would be able to understand why this might be happening!
So im editing these mp4 files in Vegas, and very simply how the audio is placed in Vegas while editing is NOT the same once it is saved as an MP4 and viewed, the sound is off about half a second for some reason.
BUT, this is where it gets weird, if I play these MP4s in VLC Player, the sound ISNT off, I can watch it from beggining to end and even click ahead or anywhere I want throughout the clip and the sound is perfecly on.
BUT in Windows media player when I play it if I just double click the file and let it play without skipping ahead or anything the sound WILL be in sync, it is ONLY when I skip ahead or go back that just doing that the sound will go off about half a second, so basically a guy throws a punch and the sound comes about half a second after making it extremely annoying, im not sure if its exactly half a second after but its very close and i doubt anyone would really notice but I do and even if people dont notice it still will make the experience subliminally not as good for them if the sound is off like that..
I just dont want to go ahead and save all these files if there all going to be like this, If windows media player cant handle it then other players might do the same thing like on an 360 or PS3 ect. ive tried different rendering techniques and it still persists, I did expierements awhile ago and found that if i save it as an avi or something and i clip ahead the sound stayed in sync for some reason..
Now I have a i7 core laptop so it shouldnt be a problem handling these videos, I am using Sony Vegas 10 Pro
Any help would be appreciated!

So, why do you think it’s a Vegas problem?
First, few people still use WMP, but it’s possible that the MP4 streaming bug may be at fault here. Here’s a utility to fix-non-streaming-mp4s. No guarantee that it will fix the problem with WMP, but it can’t hurt to try.

You dont have a Vegas problem in your situation, its
the player of choice that plays it out of sync that has an

I just assumed it was something to do with Vegas because it seems to only be affected from the MP4’s that i render out with Vegas, I have many videos downloaded in MP4 and I never expierenced that problem while playing them in Windows Media Player before.
Thanks! I will try out that utility, If I have no luck, what do you think might be doing this if its not Vegas?

I tried out the Utility and the problem is still there 🙁
Any ideas perhaps why this might be happening?

Hmmm, very very strange, I have been searching all over the internet for some answers and all ive found is many people with the same problem yet no answers, seems like this is just an unexplainable issue for the time being…
Very bizarre, in VLC it works fine, I never use windows media player so its not a big deal, its just something is telling me that Im going to end up rendering all these mp4 files and then sometime down the line ill regret it because I found out I did something wrong, just because it has the problem in windows media player makes me think that something may be wrong with my files that I dont know, but there shouldnt be anything wrong…
I have been using mp4 for so long and never had this issue before
All I know is this
If double clicked the mp4 in windows media player and Without touching it skipping ahead or back the sound will be perfecly how it was edited, no problems
So basically when you open the video it plays t correctly, and when you skip ahead or back its almost like it cant handle the file or something? Like it cant load fast enough to where im clicking and thats why theres the half a second out of sync, because the sound is late and not early!
But of course once I think of this now i remember my computer is an i7 and the files are standard definition… So there is absolutely no way that my computer cannot handle these files!

MP4 is just the container and what you put into it depends on the codec used.

Okay, after careful inspection, I may have jumped the gun a bit!
I really payed attention and found out that its not just Windows Media Player! it IS VLC as well! I dont know why I didnt notice before, probably because I love VLC so much and just didnt open my eyes to it, but definetly the same problem with Windows Media Player happens in VLC player as well!
Okay so from this it looks like it is a Vegas problem, but I downloaded Media Player CLASSIC and magically and for real this time, I carefully compared the exact same clip with headphones, the audio is perfecly on in CLASSIC, even when I skipped ahead and backwards, so I dont understand why CLASSIC can play it perfectly fine but the others cant.
I did further investigating into this and I took older mp4 files and tried to see if they had the problem as well
To my surprise they DID! Im not sure why but I want to say it wasnt as noticeable on these ones but once I really looked at more episodes it was clear that it was the same, but CLASSIC played them without issue!
So my assumption as of now is that maybe all videos go out of sync like this?
I mean its not something that the average viewer would notice im sure, so maybe thats why no one really brought it up?
The reason im thinking this is because of the following reasons
A) I have tested it on 3 different computers all with different specs (Duel core, i7, and another duel core) all have the same results
B) The older files suffer the same fate, which doesnt make sense because they were completely re-encoded in Handbrake, or rendered out in different ways
I am going to try tommorow to check out other MP4 files I have, either downloaded, or something just some other random mp4 file and see if it has the same problem when viewing in CLASSIC, VLC, and MEDIA PLAYER.
If I DO NOT get the same results, then that is proof that it is indeed a Sony Vegas problem, not per say something wrong with the program (Well who knows) but maybe just not rendering out with the proper options!
Any help or even thoughts are appreciated I really want to figure this out

Ok, try this, Render your projects in a Quicktime format,
(i prefer photo-jpeg). Then render that Quicktime file to
your regular MP4 format.Steve Rhoden

Take a look and see what I mean
Look closely when the yellow haired guy disapears, you will hear a teleporting noise, if you watch it carefully in VLC or Windows Media Player and MAKE sure to click ahead or back and you can see the teleport sound comes a little too late, trust me once you view it in Media Player Classic you can tell the difference
If you watch that part in Classic you can now tell if you carefully pay attention that the teleport sound actually starts a tad bit early (Like its suposed to and does in Vegas), it actually is heard as his body is still disapearing, but in VLC or Media Player when jumping ahead or back and viewing the sound comes after his body has disapeared!
Now that I think of it any average viewer wouldnt see this, its just since I edited this I can definitely notice the difference
I hope if you guys can see my problem with your own eyes maybe you might have another idea as to why this is happening?
