Audio/Video Length discrepancy in Vegas & DVDA
I’m having a bit of a discrepancy in the information reported between Vegas Pro 12 and DVDA Pro 6.
For example, I will render a 12 minute, 36 second clip (prior to rendering, timeline reports 12:36:00 as end of clip).
Video using the MainConcept DVD Architect Widescreen profiles.
Audio rendered using Dolby Pro 5.1 profile.Loading the rendered video file back into Vegas shows exactly what it should: 12:36:00
Windows / VLC Player report the video file as being 12:35.
Windows / VLC Player report the AC3 file as being 12:36.Importing the video and audio into DVD Architect, the timeline shows end of video at 12:35:07.
DVDA also shows that the audio track runs approximately 1 frame longer than the video.I’ve tried multiple renders, including Sony AVC Blu-Ray profiles, with similar results (DVDA timeline showing shorter video than Vegas, with audio being 1-3 frames shorter OR longer than the video.)
Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Is this normal behavior for DVDA? Should I just overlook it as more of a rough estimate, and trust what Vegas tells me instead? -

For the frame difference, you may be seeing an artifact from the DVD requirement that the last video frame has to be an iFrame, but there is no “frames” in the audio.
As far as the difference from Vegas and DVDA timeline, make sure they are both using the same format:

I’ve been working with the same timeline set in Vegas for so long (Time & Frames), I forgot that I even needed to change that in DVDA. That corrected my video length “problem” — operator error. 🙂But what about this?
This is what I meant when I said that the audio shows up as 1-3 frames (based on the Time & Frames ruler setting) shorter or longer, depending on the specific clip I’m working with?
Is this just something I should ignore? (Particularly considering that you’re looking at a 59.94fps Project — double-checked the settings — and DVDA is still showing only 30 frames on the timeline ruler?)

Not an idiot – there’s just so much to remember that we all get tripped by the details. I never noticed the one frame difference but I suspect that it’s a rounding error between the encoders. One counts frames and the other counts seconds, so I am not surprised that there will be a one frame difference between them.
No one would ever notice it on playback.

Excellent. Thank you for clearing all this up, you’ve removed a great deal of worry from me.
Now, I just have to reconcile the fact that I’ve spent the past two weeks trying to chase down a problem that didn’t actually exist. LOL
Oh well, at least we’re moving forward again! 🙂
