I am trying to connect my GH3 into Vegas Pro 12, via device explorer, so that I can combine my videos without gaps in between, but it says no device recognized. My PC recognizes the camera on the desktop and I can see my videos in the folder. Only in Vegas it does not recognize it. What am I doing wrong? Please let me know, thanks.

Make your post once Dragan and be a little patient until
someone who has direct experience with GH3 to offer you
    a suggestion.

Yes, I’m sorry about that, once I posted it, I didn’t see it instantly, so I thought it didn’t go through, and then suddenly it was 3 of them. I posted them from the phone and that’s why I couldn’t delete them. But anyway, I think I got it over the supplied software for GH3. You just need to open the files in PHOTOfunSTUDIO, export them into your desktop, and then drag them onto the Vegas timeline, there will be no interruption. And Vegas probably doesn’t recognize GH3 as a device.

ok… I suspected that Vegas would not recognize it as
a device, but i dont know much about GH3 connectivity.

I shoot with a Panasonic Lumix GH3. The PHOTOfunSTUDIO that came with the camera is a limited program which I found useless. It wouldn’t even see or import .mov files. I prefer to download directly off the SD Card to my media drives. Then load into SVP 12 with no problem.

One thing I discovered is that if you shoot.mov IntraFrame at 72Mbps, Vegas has a glitch when the file is loaded onto the timeline. The video track is much longer than the sound track (which is the proper length of the shot). The extra length in the video is made up of a freeze frame of the last image of the clip and it can run 3 or 4 times the length of the shot. I’ve seen that others on the GH3 forums have this same problems with .mov files in SVP12. It’s annoying but simple to just trim down the video track to match the length of the audio. I’ve sent Sony a notice of this bug and hopefully it will be addressed in future updates. This is not a problem with the AVCHD files, only the MOV files with I-Frame codec at 72Mbp.

Working with a GH2 the files( .mts ) need to copied to the hard disc. Spanned files larger than 4Gb limit of FAT32 need to be joined. This can be achieved in two ways.

    1) Use ‘run’ CMD and then join the files with copy
    Copy /B file1.mts+file2.mts+file3.mts joinedfile.mts

    Or

    2) Copy the whole private folder to your hard drive and bring into vegas the usual way.
Vegas should join your files correctly.

Works for .mts files not tried with .mov but it should work

I tend to use method 1 but then I grew up on DOS.

    No edit button these days!!

Connect GH3 to computer via USB

Within Vegas file->import->media This should locate media on SD card. Select files to import and hit import. Vegas knows which files are spanned (greater than 4Gb plus next). The media clips will be in the ‘imported media’ folder. Once imported the GH3 can be disconnected. The necessary clips are on the HD.
