Simple Grading in Vegas
Do we have a Soft Light ability? This is a screen capture from Final Cut, but looking to achieve the same in Vegas Pro….

There probably is. What exactly do you mean by soft light? Fill light? Diffusion?

I found this video for tweaking underexposed DSLR footage.
Would like to duplicate this work-flow in Vegas Pro.

You can pretty much do this all with the Color Corrector plugin as well as Color Curves. Look for tutorials on both of those. I use color curves on just about everything I do.

I use color curves. You manually manipulated the points in color curves to bring up whatever section tones you want. On my camcorder I’d use it to increase the contrast, which wasn’t very high out of the camera. So I’d bring up the better lit parts of the shot and brought down the darker parts.
On DSLR footage I don’t need it quite as much, and I try to keep the use of color curves minimal because if I even have to use them, it usually means something already wasn’t ideal during shooting, and there are blown out highlights with dark parts of the video that lack clarity.
Try it out and you’ll see what it does.

In the digital domain, we expose for the Brights and adjust-up those areas which are too “dark”, but keeping the Brights within limits too. To do this we need to have JUST those areas needing to be adjusted, and adjusted within parameters that matter to us. Therefore we need to be able to split or apply FX to those predetermined areas. One way is to use a Graph or Curve. Another way is to have the software Mask areas for treatment.
SONY Colour Curves (graphs), and now, recently I purchased NewBlue ColorFast. NB CF is a “mask-based” colour correction s/w having 3 layers of Chroma (colour) and Luminance (light<>dark)control and is just amazing. I also use Magic Bullet Looks in VP12 which too has a limited masking control. But the real doozy would be to have RG’s Mojo . . . gorgeous! However that at present is only for the MAC. . . We’ll see . . . .
Anyhoo…, it’s a breeze to bring-up the shadows or underexposed areas using the SONY CCurves:-

The example you are showing, is this right out of Vegas or is this one of your plug ins? Dumb Question, how do you “place” the marks on the curves on the low and mid end…

No such thing as a Dumb question, only Dumb Answers!
Right Click on the Curve, “Create Point”. But maybe you want to adjust<>move the point/s?
