Change speed on MP3 file
Hi
The case is that I have received a mp3 recording from a old-fashioned tape which has been recorded while being played a bit too fast.
Now I want to change the speed so I can recover the original speed. The music is out of tune so I will simply do it with a digital guitar tuner. So I want to change the speed – tempo AND pitch.
Can I do this in Sony Vegas? I can change the playback rate and almost get the result I want – I just need a bit more decimal numbers.
I’ve tried Pitch Shift which only changes the pitch and Time Stretch, which only changes the tempo.
Do you know other software that may help me with this if Vegas can’t?

Yes. You Ctrl+Drag or change the playback rate to get the speed correct. Then use the =/+ key to increase the pith and – key to lower it. It helps if you turn on Active Take Information (Ctrl+Shift+I) first so that you can see how many steps your are raising and lowering the pitch. It will be displayed in the lower right corner of the event.
You can also use the Classic method to stretch and lock the pitch to the stretch. One of these should be exactly what you need.

The problem is that I don’t know what the exacly tempo is and I want to find out by listening to the changing pitch. I guess you can say that when the song is in tune then the speed is correct.
So how do I lock the pitch to the stretch?

Ctrl+Drag the event to make it stretch. Then open the Properties and on the Audio Event tab change the Method to Classic and check Pitch Change box [x] Lock to stretch.
