  • MOV File Lost All Video _ Why?

Posted by Ken Bennett on June 27, 2013 at 7:17 pm

I have a project that I was working on a few weeks back that was using MOV files in 24p. Today when I open the project, ALL the MOV files say “off line” (the HDD that contains the file IS on-line). The MOV file now only has the audio and no video.

How is it possible for a MOV the lose just the video part of the file?

    Answers please?

It’s not possible for a file that once had video & audio to ‘lose’ one or the other. What is size of the file? If it is a large file then the video is still there, but something in your system changed how the codec operates.

Try putting the file on some type of removable drive and see how it performs on another system.

My guess is that you have QuickTime player set to auto update or you installed a new version of iTunes. NEVER let Apple update anything as it’s a well known fact that it breaks things, even in the Mac world 🙁
If I am correct, uninstall the current version and install an older one. I have 7.7.1 on my home (XP) and office (Windows7) machines and it works perfectly.

You understand my I’m not going insane. That was my first reaction, video can’t disappear for a file and leave only audio. Either the file is there or is has been deleted. The problem was QT version 7.5. Doesn’t like these MOV file types. Updated to 7.7.5. Magic! Video back.

The problem turned out to be QT 7.5. This version doesn’t like these MOV file types. I updated to 7.7.5 and all video came home.

I had the exact same problem, and it was QT 7.5 too
