  Convert timecoded Quicktime clips into something usable for Vegas 12

  Hi everybody,

  i’ve got a “Timecode” related question which I haven’t exactly found anywhere on the web.

  We’re shooting a music-video with a Canon 5d Mark III (with 25 fps). An iPod serves as playback device whereas on the left channel we’ve got the music-track (which goes to a boom-box) and on the right channel we’ve got audio-timecode recorded through the mic-input on the camera.

  All the files are wedged through VideoToolShed’s “LTCconvert” (ex FCP Aux TC reader) to convert the audio-timecode into Quicktime-Timecode. (https://www.videotoolshed.com/products).

  So far everything work’s excellent! When the files are imported into Final Cut Pro X (Trial – yes I’m still unsure) the timecode positions are perfectly displayed in the “Event Library” (Start / End columns).

  But is there a chance to import these timecoded MOV’s into Vegas 12 to have them aligned correctly on the timeline?
  As far as I read, Vegas doesn’t support Quicktime-Timecode.

  But isn’t there maybe a solution to convert the files?

  Any help is greatly appreciated!

  From the Vegas Pro 12 Readme file for the latest build (563):

  Timecode for MOV files is now read properly and displayed in Vegas Pro media properties.

  Hi Mike,

  thanks for your swift reply! I don’t know what I am doing wrong because in the Quicktime 7 Player the Timecode is displayed under the entry “Standard” and above “Frame number” as “Timecode: non drop-frame” with the correct time after I wedge the file through LTCconvert by Videotoolshed.

  After importing it into Vegas 12 build 563 (64 bit), all the files appear with timecode 00:00:00.

  Somehow I managed to export an audio track with video into a MOV file out of Logic Pro 9, again converted the audio-timecode track in LTCconvert and had the right timecode displayed in Vegas. No idea why?

  It’ll be really great to unravel the remaining misteries!
