change slideshow manually?
Hi everyone, brand new to Movie Studio and this forum, hope my question isn’t too stupid. I’ve been asked to make a slideshow that can both play automatically when desired, and on other occasions be manipulated event-to-event by a speaker a la powerpoint. Is that possible with SVMS? Thanks.

The question is how would you deliver it? On DVD? I’m not sure how you would create a movie with any software that would allow you to manually switch slides other than pausing and resuming the DVD. Maybe you could do something tricky with using the actual DVD menus as slides in addition to a movie?

that is the only way i see it.
first you make a video with your pictures. second – you make a menu and make a dvd project. in dvd you can set what you want. 2 options on start action menu – 1 play the whole thing, 2 – scene selection menu where you can manipulate your pictures. after each picture video goes back to scene selection where you can pick any other photo.
the question is: if you are new to video editing, will you handle creating dvd compilation with interactive menus and submenus?you need sony vegas and dvdarchitect for that. photoshop would probably help but you can do without it as well.

Actually I was thinking of something a bit different. For the manual slide show, you make the DVD menu background the slide. Then you have the NEXT button go to the next menu which is the next slide. You control the slide show by pressing previous or next on the remote control. This is just like navigating scene selection menus but the menu is the slide. I think you can only have 99 menus so you would be limited to 99 slides but this is how some consumer DVD’s show art work in the extras menu.

One other idea is to use the Picture Compilation in DVD Architect. This will allow you to add the slides and navigate between them. You would click Next and then Pause to go to the next slide (otherwise it will keep flipping slides) but the Next and Previous buttons would navigate between slides and you just have to remember to press Pause so that it doesn’t keep going forward so the presenter would have to know this and remember it.

yes that is good too but you have no control on what you want to show, you are limited to next/previous. in my concept you can choose which picture you want next. depands on what one wants. and yes: the number of pictures/chapters is limited.

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. I have decided that what my clients need now is a powerpoint presentation. If I need to, I’ll download it into a slideshow on Movie Studio later.

Good call. I was going to suggest that you use Powerpoint but then when I read “a la powerpoint” in your post I figured that you had considered it and rejected it for some reason but I agree with you. What you are describing is Powerpoint presentation, not a video.
