Sony Vegas not accepting files in templates
My Sony vegas [12] does not “recognize” MJPG based .mov files.
Neither does it “recognize” MPEG based .mp3 files.
Ive downloaded quicktime, ive tried several dozen codecs, ive rebooted multiple times, and still, it does not “recognize” the files(therefore turning them into “offline media”)
Please help me!

Hmmm… This is the exact “type” of file my VP12 install does successfully everyday. Firstly you’ll need to confirm what is inside that MOV wrapper. I use G-Spot and/or MediaInfo, both FREE s/w and downloadable from the INTERNET. Then post the results here for comparison.
I’m assuming you CAN play this in Quick Time player?

yes, it runs on every other program I have on my computer.
And yes, as previously stated, I know its MJPG codec because of mediainfo.
Much as the mp3 files not playing are based around MPEG codec.
(both of which ive downloaded multiple codecs for versions of)I believe this is related to SVP12 not accepting computer codecs, (even though I run with admin privs.)
I have personally never had a situation like this.
So again, please help

Open the file in the QuickTime Player. Does it play? Use Ctrl+I in the QuickTime Player to bring up the Inspector. What codec does QuickTime think the file is using? It should say Motion JPEG A or Motion JPEG B if it’s a proper MJPEG file. Vegas should have no problem reading and writing these (at least it does on my workstation).

and things just got messy.
According to movie inspector, the MJPG files are:
Format: Photo – JPEG, 1920×1080, Millions
And some of the PNG movie codecs(which I previously forgot to mention):
Are:PNG, 1920×1080, Millions+
Both files, as previously stated play perfectly fine in quicktime, with no lag.
Also to note, the .mp3 files I previously mentioned, has movie inspector saying this:
MPEG Layer 3, Stereo, 44,100 kHz. (which makes me question even more, if this is such a common, typical audio format, why is Sony Not supporting this offbat? and even with Quicktime, still not working. -

OK, so they are not MJPEG files. They are Photo JPEG files. Vegas Pro also has no problem playing these files so something is not right with your computer.

Do you have any codec-paks installed?

I have the “Combined Community Codec Pack”, otherwise, I am not aware of any others.

You may have just found your problem. Codec-paks are the #1 cause of Vegas Pro not being able to accept media that it normally would have (and does on everyone elses PC that didn’t install a codec-pak).
I would uninstall the codec-pak and re-install Vegas Pro and hope that it fixes the problem. You should never install a codec-pak on a video editing PC. It overlays the codecs that Vegas provided with alternates that don’t always work (as you have seen).
