  • Gluing footage back together

Posted by Rob James on April 3, 2013 at 4:17 pm

Hi Guys, this is a very basic question, but something I’ve never had to do before. I’ve sliced some footage up, to make tiny edits in the audio portion, but I didn’t un-group the video from the audio first. So what I would like to do now is glue just the video portion back together, to make it a seamless part again, and keep the sliced up audio portion. I’m sure the answer is rudimentary, I’m probably just missing something obvious. Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

Oooh! Oooh! Pick me! Pick me! I know the answer!

    🙂

Just select all clips, and “U” for ungroup.

Then, select all video clips except the first one, and then delete them.

Then, grab the right edge of the first clip and just extend it to the end of your audio edits.

    Bodda bing.

That works because they are events not clips. (If it’s on the timeline, it is an event). When you split an event you are not doing anything to the media, just making two events that have different in-out pointers to the media. when you drag the edge of an event on the timeline all you are doing is adjusting the in/out points.

    Hi Stephen,
I’ve learned many moons ago about not using the term clip but the term is a common one so it must mean something. Can you tell me exactly what a clip is.
    Thanks

Everything on the timeline is an event. There are no clips on the timeline.
Clips refer to the media file, as in the Project Media window. Events refer to the media on the timeline and there can be many events on the timeline from one media file.
