Sony Vegas Pro 9 [Already Installed error]
Hello everybody,
I had Sony Vegas Pro 9 installed in my computer on an external HDD .
I removed that external device and started using a new one where i wanted to install also the SV Pro 9 , but when i tried for it , i got a message that the program was already installed .
I used revo unistaller to remove the program and clear the registry , but i continued to have this problem.I have windows 7 ultimate Sp1 64-bit and i had installed the 32-bit (was working perfectly).
Also when i was trying to install the 64-bit of SV Pro 9 i had a problem that a file in the x86 program files is invalid.What u suggest me to do ?

Microsoft has an uninstaller on their site. I don’t recall the name of it, but it fixed the same type of error I was getting a few years ago with a previously installed version of TurboTax.

i tried that link and after the checking i dont have that error message about sony vegas being already installed but i have an error (when i try to install both x32 or x64 versions) that “The Folder path ‘Program Filex (x86)’ contains an invalid character”. -
Windows doesn’t really support installing applications on an external drive like the Mac does. This is because it keeps all sorts of information in it’s registry which becomes corrupt when the registry and the file system no longer match. It’s a horrible design and one of the major reason’s I hate Windows and use a Mac now.
You need to contact Sony Support and find out “secret bits” they are flipping in the registry. I tried to simulate your problem by deleting Vegas Pro 9.0 from Program Files and then deleting everything in the Registry with “Sony” in the name and then running CCleaner to delete all of the registry entries that no longer match the file system and still the Vegas Pro 9.0 installer would not re-install complaining that it was already installed!
You might also suggest to Sony that their installer design could be improved. i.e., if the files for the product no longer exist, that’s a big “hint” that the product is no longer installed regardless of any secret registry entries.

If there is a Sony folder in that directory, delete it. Then try again. Also, you should only be installing the version that is appropriate for your OS (64 or 32-bit, not both).

There isn’t any Sony Vegas file anymore in my Computer , that’s the wierd thing. I have removed them all with revounistaller.
Also when i tried to install the Sony Vegas again i tried to do that on my primary SSD (C:) and not to my externals , i didnt know that windows has a problem with registry when you install programs there , cause so far no other programs had that kind of behavior.
I guess the only solution in the end might be a Windows re-format,if you consider that it will take only about less than an hour to make it , that is less than the 1+ week im trying to solve this problem 😛 -

Does it show up under installed programs in the Control Panel? Can you uninstall it from there?

No it doesn’t that’s the wierd, i mean since it’s not there , it’s not inside any folder of my hard disks and also registry was clean.
But the thing is that after the tool from microsoft that helped me clean it again, i have the error about the ‘invalid character on the program files path’
