  Small compression in QuickTime

  I’m using AVI compression with Divx codec in my work out of AE and I get really good results- substantially small files without a significant lost in quality. I’m trying to find a similar setting with Quick Time but couldn’t find any. The closet one was Quick Time H.264 which isn’t as small and the color output is incorrect. When I tried the key frame every X frame option, the render crashes.

  Any suggestions?

  Render out of After Effects to a good quality codec and then bring the rendered movie into a compression/transcoding system, separate from AE.

  streamclip is free, multiplatform and do multi-pass encoding (smaller files, better quality).

  if you have cs4, you should have adobe media encoder which will do virtually the same (it can actually load the ae project and render from that, but i don’t know how that compares to having an actual render to encode from).

  Thanks, the options sound good and would work for some of the projects.
  However, I’m still looking for a way do work it out in After Effects, I work with bulk amounts of short shots, each 50-100 frames long. I will try these methods though.
