    Getting my head around rotoscoping.

    I have VP12, BCC 8, WIn 7 Pro.

Looking to roto out a couple of dancers on some footage and replace them with talent filmed locally. I have been experimenting with the Motion Key unit in BCC8, also the witness protection and match-move. However, I an not sure these will give me the tracking I need.

I have also been testing Mocha 3.1’s trial version and I seem to be having some good results tracking the singers.

My question may seem quite basic – how do I use the tracking data from Mocha to move mattes in VP12. I understand that I can export the tracking data from Mocha in a BCC8 format, but I am not sure what filter to import it into to allow me apply mattes using the tracking data.

I have tracked the talent, drawn matte splines, attached the mattes to the tracking data – all this seems to work fine in Mocha, but I cannot figure out how to get these mattes into Vegas.

    Any suggestions/help appreciated.

    Thank you.

Sorry I can’t answer your question, but can comment that I’ve been less than impressed with BCC8 corner pin or match move unless you’ve got footage that’s perfect. Just curious, are you doing this for grins or are you seriously trying to make something look realistic? Seems like a tall order – I’d like to see your results. Good luck.

    James,

I agree – this is a tall order. If I am going to use it, I want it to look somewhat realistic – it will be used for some effects in a stage-school’s annual show later in the year, so I am looking at how feasible this will be before committing to using it… I am also using this as an excuse to learn practice/learn new skills.

This video tutorial shows how to combine Mocha with Vegas:

    Theo,

Thanks for that – I had seen that tutorial. However, I am a little confused on one point.

In Mocha I was able to setup some masks to follow the tracking data to mask out the specific talent. However, I cannot see how to import these masks into Vegas. I may be confusing two things, but how do I import the masks into Vegas? Or do I have to import the tracking data and redraw the masks manually?

    Thanks,

    Stewart

Tracking data can be exported to BCC Corner pin, which is available as a plugin for Vegas. But for Shape data, I always export to AE.
