DVD Architect 5.2 burn failures
Posted by Bob Mark on February 19, 2013 at 4:24 pmSorry about posting in the Vegas forum, but there doesn’t seem to be a DVDA forum. Until recently, I have had no problems burning discs from inside DVDA 5.2. Now when I try, 3 out of 4 fail. It just hangs during the burn and the burn time goes up, but the percentage of burn does not. I’m using 16x Sony DVD discs. Any ideas on this? Thanks
Bob

Who Really Makes the Disc?
Realize that most media is produced by a relatively small number of factories, located in several different places. These factories are mostly present in Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, China and India. There are more, but those are the largest ones. The best media generally comes from Japan, Taiwan and Singapore. The worst typically comes from China and Malaysia.
The blank disc brand name on the package means almost nothing. Apple is a great brand, but they do not make their own discs, instead outsourcing to a company like Mitsubishi Chemicals. Common companies like Memorex, Maxell and Imation all outsource to media vendors. Mitsubishi also makes the discs for Verbatim, etc.
It is the media ID that is important, as it reveals the disc manufacturer. Unfortunately, this is not written on packaging or anywhere else. Companies want consumers to be oblivious to this sort of behind-the-scenes information. The Media ID is also used by your DVD burner to determine the burn parameters which includes the maximum burn speed.
I recommend that you use the freeware “DVD Identifier” to read the media ID to learn who *really* made the discs in your box:
https://www.afterdawn.com/software/cd_dvd/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfmAlso, note that DVD burners *do* wear out. Well, the lasers do. I can usually get 500 discs on a DVD drive before it starts flaking out.

February 22, 2013 at 1:18 pmThanks for the input. I just got those discs and had no issues burning on another computer. I’ll try again with various brands and see what happens. Thx.

February 23, 2013 at 9:24 amGiven that the discs worked fine on another computer, unless you have changed those discs and that coincides with your failures starting, I would maybe try with one other disc type, and if that also fails, then you have a good chance of a dirty/dud drive, or other fault in your PC. You can just about _get_ a drive for less than 50 decent discs!:0….or at least where I am you can.

February 26, 2013 at 11:07 amI don’t burn from inside DVDA any more. I get too many coasters. I now use Nero or Imgburn.
My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 11 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

February 26, 2013 at 12:03 pmhmmm…yes…I have had less than stellar results, I have to admit. My last effort was fore a family funeral. Not sure what I used in the end, but it was not DVDA.
It was just that the OP said they had been OK until recently.

February 26, 2013 at 12:08 pmLike other folks on here, I’ve never used DVDA to do my burning.
I prepare in DVDA and use an outside app (in my case it’s ImgBurn – it’s free) to do my burning. -

February 26, 2013 at 12:58 pmOK. So you create the DVD files in DVDA, but burn elsewhere….interesting.
Is there a _reason_ you use DVDA to prepare? As distinct from other DVD prep software….
I do know I have found it tough to find programmes that let me save to disc, then burn and DVDA does that.Nick

I’ve been using it since it was introduced and have never bothered to learn to use any other programs.
