1280×720 Video Squashed Horizontally After Rendering
I’ve created a video using a 1280 x 720 screen size and it looks fine in the preview window. After rendering to a file, the video appears much narrower in both the windows player and youtube. Ironically, youtube even added black bars on the left and right sides (when it would have fit if they hadn’t crushed it). I’ve tried rendering to a bunch of different file types and templates, but it doesn’t change. What am I missing?

Your video render settings are obviously not set to 1280×720. When you go to render the file, make sure the template setting is the above resolution.

Thanks, Dave. I didn’t notice the render settings were changing the size.
However, it seems like all the templates that show a 1280 resolution either won’t play at all or it plays slow and choppy with the audio cutting in and out. Any advice?

If the video is choppy on playback, that is hardware related. The choppy video is telling you that the computer is having problems playing the clip, due to the size and video information. If it plays fine when rendered to a smaller video, that’s all the evidence you need. Your hardware is just not powerful enough to play the video smoothly. Many years ago companies used to make PCI cards to assist in playing back MPG clips, because processors/computers in general weren’t powerful enough to play back these clips smoothly. That’s why the audio appears out of sync, too.

Thanks, Dave. I changed it to 640×360 and now it runs fine. I was basing my settings on a friend’s recommendation, but his computer must be newer than mine.
