Still having trouble with jolting/flickering footage in Vegas 12 :(
I posted my issue not too long ago but I’m still having problems with working with old projects from Vegas 9, now in 12.
I am experiencing issues where some of my media clips, seems random, jolt around the screen when they are either crossfading with other clips, transitioning, or simply just moving onto the next clip in the timeline with no transitions or effects.
Not every clip is like this despite a lot of them coming from the same video source material. The video will jolt or flicker around, sometimes at weird, blown up resolutions, all over the screen.
I can’t find any work arounds to fix it except for completely reimporting and editing from scratch… Obviously I want to avoid doing this because it will be a lot of work… Let me know if I need to be more descriptive of my problem. Really could use some help! Was away from Vegas for a long time.
This is a brand new computer so I wonder if its specs or simply the updated version of Vegas, is just having trouble reprocessing everything. I’m not super computer savvy and I haven’t been using Vegas for some time. Any ideas?

I used to have the same types of issues at my transitions, but maybe 50% of the time. These problems went away when I switched to two hard drives in RAID 0 (striping) for my video clips, instead of the one high-speed external drive I was using.

You’re not going to like this answer but it is best to complete your Vegas Pro 9.0 projects in Vegas Pro 9.0 and start your new projects in Vegas Pro 12.0. While it “should” be compatible, I have found that a lot of people who are having strange problems are editing older projects.

What is the source of the video? What codec do they use? You can use a free tool like MediaInfo to find out if you don’t know.

You’re not going to like this answer but it is best to complete your Vegas Pro 9.0 projects in Vegas Pro 9.0 and start your new projects in Vegas Pro 12.0.
Unfortunately when I tried to run Vegas 9 on my new computer it was just… sooooooo laggy it was unworkable. I would just click somewhere on the screen and it would just freeze up for a good minute. Even on a blank project. 12 for some reason has absolutely no issues whatsoever and is quite smooth even with projects with a lot of media to process.
I also tried a new project just to mess with some things and the flickering happened again with one of the transitioning clips. It’s completely random so I can’t really pin down where it’s going to happen.
What is the source of the video? What codec do they use?
I downloaded media info. Help me out with where I need to look? Sorry I am such a newb. -_-

Try disabling GPU Acceleration in Options | Preferences | Video. This sounds like it might be a graphics card issue unless you are using media like DivX or Xvid or other unsupported codec.

Open the file with MediaInfo and look at one of the views. I like the Tree view. Then look under Video for the Format. It will tell you what codec it uses.
You can also use a tool like GSpot. It will look something like this:

You are my hero. I turned of GPU acceleration and looks like it’s working fine! I will go through each of my projects and make sure there are no more issues. By the way, what does GPU acceleration even do?

It’s supposed to make playback smooth by utilizing the GPU on your graphics card. Unfortunately, it can also cause problems with playback at times.

Well… if your GPU is slower than your CPU then it’s better to keep it off anyway.
