Strange error message in DVDA
Posted by Paul Gregory on February 12, 2013 at 4:18 amWhen I go to save markers in DVDA 5.2 I get the following error message “an error occurred when trying to save markers to the media file. This is likely due to the file being is read-only or is being used by another application”
The troubleshooting guide makes on reference to this error & I have no idea as to how to get past it. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

February 12, 2013 at 6:29 amIs this your own footage? Or “brought-in” from elsewhere?

February 12, 2013 at 6:53 amIt’s all my own footage.
What I’m trying to do was alter the starting point of play when a thumbnail was clicked. It appears that I must have entered the chapter point incorrectly in Vegas & I was trying to drag the marker along the timeline in DVDA to make it start at the correct place. The marker moves OK but when I clcik to save the marker I get that message.
Thanks in advance

February 12, 2013 at 7:48 pmI haven’t ever seen that message, but then I haven’t ever tried moving a marker in DVDA. Also note that Chapter markers on a DVD have to be on an i-Frame (DVD Specs). If you try moving the chapter marker from an i-Frame, DVDA will just move it to the nearest one.
The best way is to fix the marker position in Vegas and encode a new MPEG file. Since Version 9, (I think), the Sony MPEG encoder will force an iFrame at markers.
It’s possible that your error message is that you are trying to save the .sfk file (the one with the markers) while DVDA still has it open.

February 13, 2013 at 7:54 amI seem to have said that everything was OK too soon. I have just previewed this project which is Blu-ray & then burned it to a re writable disk. The preview is 100% as I expected they disk isn’t.
There are 2 differences. In preview the background music for a menu plays all of the way through yet on the disk I only hear the music for 2 seconds & then nothing.
The second difference is that on a menu I have the thumbnails highlight set to rectangle around the text box. On the disk I see the menu & see the highlighting on the first thumbnail displays for about 2 seconds before it disappears. The remote then stops working & I can’t can’t access any button to have anything work.
I have gone back to the original project on the PC as well as trying to play the disk elsewhere but both are operation exactly as described above. The disc has been used before without incident.
Thanks in advance
