A Number of Problems Resolved
I finally resolved a lot of the waiting times to load, some crashes (these will never end) and playback problems with this weding that I am editing. There are a number of multi-camera scenes, various audio feeds, SFX, and most important, the very complicated opening sequence. This sequence appears to have been the brunt of the problem. They are a company open with Alpha keying and a Digital Juice HD Toxic Wedding template compilation, which demand tons of horsepower (the DJ sequence encompasses a good number of tracks that are presented for customization, then their Juicer program compiles it to just one video and one audio track). However, this track is NOT rendered by the Juicer. After a number of nestings and copy/pastes (not all of the nesting worked properly), I had around a 2 hour program ready for final tweaking. When I went back to my company’s opening and DJ sequences, the video under the alpha track did not show through, even though the events were there and played back fine when I checked them in VLC Media Player. I futzed around trying to copy/paste events among veg files, and also tried renesting a few veg files, but I failed to get these opening sequences to play properly. At the end of my rope, I decided to render the opening sequences and chose Sony MFX. Although it took around 27 minutes to render this one minute, it not only now plays smooth as silk in the Vegas 12 timeline, but all operations on the current veg file are much quicker, smoother and with less crashes. So the moral of the story, I guess, is to render all complicated sections to make one’s editing a much better and efficient process. At lest this method has worked for me and I will continue to follow this procedure unless there is a better one for which I am unaware.
