    Are these assumptions correct?

If I were to make a Blu-ray 1920×1080 from stills of this exact size I will loose no quality unless I crop them to another ratio.

If my originals were say double this 3840×2160 I should be able to use exactly a quarter of the original & still have the best quality possible, assuming that your lens was good? If this is true will the end result be any different if the picture were cropped prior to importing them into a project?

    Thanks in advance

    Thanks in advance

I have been happy taking original resolution photos and having Vegas Pro adjust the size down for Blu-ray. If you are dealing with a large number of images (hundreds), then scaling them down before hand will save some memory and Vegas will respond faster.

Technically speaking a dedicated image editor may do a better job than a video editor in scaling the images down, but I don’t see the difference.

    Thanks for the reply.

I suppose that one could take any large picture & crop to only 10% of original size & still have quality at least equal to a SD video file.

    Thanks in advance

One thing that I pay close attention to is the aspect ratio of the photo. The aspect ratio of most photos (all?) does not match those used in videos. You must either use blacks bars (or their equivalent), or crop the photo to obtain the correct aspect ratio. I have preset crop settings in Photoshop which allow me to generate a photo which will fit a video screen. That gives me the opportunity to decide which part of the photo will be displayed. I can also factor in safe areas when sizing the photo.
