  • still image becomes upside down for one frame.

    Have you ever seen this?
I have some stills on the timeline and on the first frame of one of the images, the image appears upside down. I have no effects on the still, only a slight crop to zoom in a tad.

I’m so unimpressed with Vegas12. So many odd behaviours and soooo many crashes.

I wasted my time and money. As soon as this project is over, I’m going back to 11 until new updates make this software usable. (speaking from my experience only)

How does it look when you open it in Photoshop?

Sounds like a bug and unless you report it to Sony, chances are a new update is not going to fix it because they don’t even know about it. You need to report this behavior to Sony so that they can get it on their bug list to fix.

BTW, I’m having no issues with Vegas Pro 12.0. What kind of issues are you having? (other than a mysterious flipping image which I would just delete from the timeline and add it back again to see if that fixes it since it’s only one image)

    Hi John,

    Thanks, I’ll try that.
Many crashes and hangs. AT times just loading a project, and starting to play it will hang a few seconds in. The CTI will continue to move, the sound will continue but the video on in the preview window will stop and vegas will become unresponsive.
At times renders will crash, other times it’ll just crash during editing or hang and become unresponsive. The list goes on. I ensured I have the latest Nvidia drivers from my card, use very few effects.

Just a very frustrating experience which didn’t happen in SVP9 (11 was better than 12 but with a few issues… after several Sony software releases)

Have you tried looking with another viewer? I am not completely sure of the mechanics, but there is an orientation flag in the MMPEG header. (That’s how a viewer can “instantly” change the image orientation). It’s possible that Vegas isn’t reading this correctly.

As a workaround, just put the offending image on a separate layer below the main layer, then move the start of the “bad” image to the left slightly – hidden under the main layer.

I’ve had this happen to me twice. I can’t pinpoint what causes it so it’s difficult to report to Sony.

Sorry to hear you are having so many problems. Vegas Pro 12.0 has been fairly stable for me. There is the occasional glitch but overall I’m happy with it.

    Tanks for your tip Steve.

It helped me. I simply cut the first few frames from the event image and re-sized the event to it’s original size. Appears to have worked. There was another glitch somewhere else, something other than the orientation this time, did the same workaround and this band-aid worked.

    Hi John,
I guess you’re one of the lucky ones as it seems many others have experienced issues with Vegas 12. Many reports of issues present in Vegas 12 which did not exist in previous versions. Like what I’m experiencing.

Well I just built a new workstation so there isn’t a whole lot of software on it and it seems to be working well.

I see. That certainly can’t hurt, John.

On the same PC, things that used to work in SVP11, now really act up.
I was working on a project today, wasted many hours trying to render using the MainConcept template. Again, it’s just jpgs on a timeline with a few crop/pans, a couple of built-in transitions.

Odd things like in the middle of rendering, it freezes. or.. the upside down image mentioned above, or… a one-frame jumbled image at a cut (the one-frame image was actually from earlier on the timeline!). or.. an image becoming slightly out of focus two frames before a cut, etc.

After hours, I rendered with Sony AVC without errors. but… lower quality.

Again, so not impressed. I need to be able to depend on my tools and be able to concentrate on my creativity when editing. Not forever problem-solving what should work and spending valuable time trying and applying workarounds. I’ve been in the software industry for over 25 years so I do understand the complexity of it all, especially given all the players involved. But this is ridiculous and simply speaks of buggy software released before adequate testing.

    Cheers,

    Gilles
